About Us

“I don’t know if it’s because of its brilliant colour, its overwhelming perfume or its imposing flavour … perhaps because it testifies to my life’s work and to the patient rhythm of time.
I don’t know why, but I can only say that Oil has bewitched me and that I have dedicated my entire life to it.”
Marcello Ronci

FAMILY HISTORY

The Ronci family is an ancient farming family which has lived on this land and worked among its olive groves for generations and is an integral part of this extraordinary territory.

In the 1950s Nello Ronci acquired a small piece of land in the hills of Bevagna where he settled his family and where he began a modest production of oil.

The business grew, however, thanks to the initiative and tenacity of his son Marcello, who, having a passion for oil and for the land, over the years was able, with obstinacy and sacrifice, to buy and plant new olive groves and in 1981, to build a modern new oil mill.

Today their daughters Simona, with an agricultural degree, and Roberta, who have decided to follow the family passion, work together with Marcello and his wife Annarita.

Ronci Oil is “Passion”, fruit of a profound knowledge of the territory, of wise and valuable tradition united with modern techniques of cultivation and processing, based on the precepts of organic agriculture.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our strength is in tending to the plants with the art, passion, love, patience and virtue of our predecessors, while improving their quality, observing and following ever-improved techniques in order to render our oil and our brand synonymous with high quality.

All of our work is based on respect for what oil is: the expression of a plant, of a territory, of a crop. Each choice in the olive grove and in the oil mill is dictated by acquiescence to the uniqueness of oil at its origin.

Each olive tree is lovingly cared for so that it produces its best fruit.

The singularity of the final result, that limpid and perfumed nectar, is the expression of continuous direct contact with the olive trees and the soil.

The Ronci family dedicates competence, experience and passion to the obsessive control of every phase of the production process. A constant search for perfection without ever, for any reason, compromising quality.

CULTIVATION

Our company is proud to personally handle all procedures beginning with those “in the field”.

Fertilization: rigorously organic, to safeguard the health of the plants, of the environment and of Man.

Pruning and maintenance of plant health: these procedures are state-of-the-art and follow the dictates of the most recent agronomic studies and technological innovations aimed at obtaining healthy fruit that produces quality oil.

Landscape preservation: through the care of our olive groves (otherwise abandoned) we help keep the ecosystem alive.

Harvest: this takes place over a very limited time period between the end of October and the first half of November in order to gather all the fruit at the proper degree of ripeness, keeping in mind the characteristics of the varieties of oil-producing olives cultivated. The harvesting it is entirely done by hand to preserve the integrity of the drupes.

In manual harvesting, the workers climb the trees on ladders and, using their fingers or special combs, strip the olives from the branches; the fruit falls onto nets placed below the trees and is then gathered into bins which reach the mill where rigorously cold extraction takes place.
Manual harvesting is the system that guarantees the best quality extra virgin olive oil because it does not damage the olives or the plants.

THE LANDSCAPE

The Ronci farm is situated in an exceptional naturalistic and landscape panorama.
It is located in the hills of Bevagna, a small historical centre in the heart of green Umbria, an area traditionally dedicated to the cultivation of olive trees. From its terraces a panorama of inestimable value unfolds over the entire Umbrian valley. In fact from here one can admire the beautiful villages of Assisi, Santa Maria degli Angeli, Spello, Bevagna, Montefalco, Foligno and Trevi.

The property extends over a surface of about 15 hectares and is situated at an altitude of 350 m above sea level.

Its 5000 olive trees grow in a soil of calcareous origin, very rocky and poor in humus; the mild climate, ventilated and not excessively moist, does not permit the reproduction of the “oil fly”, making this an ideal environment for the cultivation of olive trees.
